What: Black Hill Ridge Walk is located at Black Hill Reserve near Kyneton. It is 2.7 kilometres and has more ups and downs than the 3.7 km Black Hill Circuit Track. There are spectacular views at various points of the walk and plenty of flora, fauna and amazing rock formations to see.
Where: Black Hill Reserve is on the outskirts of Kyneton and does head down a dirt road. The easiest way to get there is to type 110 Black Hill School Road into your GPS which will take you directly to the carpark. (Searching for Black Hill Reserve may direct you to a reserve with the same name in Ballarat!).
The best bit: The views were spectacular from the top of the Ridge walk but the kids said their favourite part was all the big rocks beside the path along the way. They loved climbing them.
Picnic or cafe: The closest cafes are in nearby Kyneton. I would recommend packing waterbottles and snacks for the walk.
Toilets: There are no toilets so definitely get the kids to go before you head off in the car.
Make a day of it: Head to the nearby Turpin Falls in Langley, time your visit with the Kyneton Farmers’ Market or drive through Kyneton for a bite at Ruby Cafe, Social Foundry or Major Tom’s.
