Major Tom’s, Kyneton

What: Forget that well known burger joint that also starts with an M, Major Tom’s delivers the goods when it comes to a family friendly eatery. The decor is eclectic, the booths like that out of an American diner and the food is delicious. They also have gigs, movies and trivia nights. (You might want to get a babysitter for those).

Where: Major Tom’s is on 57 Piper Street, right next door to where the Kyneton Farmers’ Market is held.

Rating on the kid friendly scale: What child doesn’t like fries? Major Tom’s has kid-friendly food, easily accessible toilets and high chairs. It’s a bit tight inside for prams and younger kids may struggle to sit still. If it’s a nice day, the outside area is ideal as children are contained and can move around a bit more. There is no nappy change table. I recommend this diner for kindergarten aged children and up.

The best bit: You can have a cider with your meal! Perfect on a hot day. For those who don’t drink alcohol, they also have spiders on the drinks menu which was a bit of a blast from the past for us oldies.

You must try: I loved my Honky Tonk (spicy chicken burger with slaw) and the fries are first rate.

Make a day of it: Visit on the day of the market, stop in after checking out the Kyneton Museum, Kyneton Community Park or the nearby Turpin Falls.
