What: This amazing park is well worth the drive. Like many of our favourite playgrounds, the equipment is wide ranging but this is on another level. There are climbing frames, swings, a flying fox, and in the centre, a tall and extensive piece of equipment with long winding slides and elements to explore on each level. This park also has the best water play area we have ever seen.
Where: Depending on where you are in the Macedon Ranges or surrounds, Wallan could be a bit of a drive. However, given how amazing and vast the playground is, we think it is worth it, and if perfectly timed, could accommodate naps for young children quite nicely. The address is Northern HIghway & Queen Street, Wallan. Alternatively, type in the full title above, or ‘Wallan Playground’ into your GPS for directions.
The best bit: My kids loved the long slides and, as we went on a warm day, the water play area was a winner too.
Picnic or cafe: If you pack a picnic, there are plenty of tables, benches and grassy areas to set yourself up. There are also many cafes and eateries nearby, including just across the road from the park.
Toilets: There is a well equipped toilet block at the park with nappy change facilities.
Make a day of it: Heading to the park itself may be enough, but you could go there after a trip to the Riddells Creek or Lancefield District Farmers’ Market on the third and fourth Saturdays of the month. The Wallan Market is on the second Saturday of the month, right next to the Community Park.
