What: Nestled at the base of the beautiful Mount Macedon is this little piece of wilderness and Stanley Park Waterfall. It was created from lava that flowed down the mountain millions of years ago. If you’re not up for a walk, you can view the waterfall from above, otherwise it is only a short trek down some steps.

Where: As you head up towards Mount Macedon you take a left at Bingarra Lane and then the first left.

The best bit: My kids loved that the walk was short and easy, (they are all primary school age), and that they could get close to the waterfall. It was only a short distance from the track.

Picnic or cafe: There are no cafes within walking distance so a picnic might be the order of the day. The neighbouring Stanley Park playground has a barbecue area if you want to cook up something hot.

Toilets: In the first carpark there is an old-style toilet block.

Make a day of it: Head to the Stanley Park Waterfall and Playground for a long lunch, or make it part of an excursion up the Mount to see the Memorial Cross or Camel’s Hump.
