We are pleased to announce the relaunch of the Macedon Ranges Mumma Shop Local Keyring Initiative.
What is it? I started the Shop Local Keyring Initiative just before the pandemic hit, as a way to encourage people to shop locally first. Living in the Macedon Ranges, it has been disappointing to see many local businesses close – businesses run by our friends, neighbours, local families, mums and dads, who provided great services and products to our community and anyone who visited the region.
How does it work? The idea is that people buy a Macedon Ranges Mumma keyring, keep it with their keys and when they are shopping locally in the Macedon Ranges and surrounds, they show it at participating businesses to receive special discounts and deals. The goal is to get people to check the Initiative list first and support local shops, businesses and cafes, before heading to the larger chains and conglomerates, keeping money in our community and boosting the livelihoods of our locals. We have so many amazing local cafes, shops and services, but many of us do not know they are there until they are closing up.
Who is involved? We currently have around 20 businesses on board, offering discounts and specials to our keyring holders including: 3 Little Pigs, Jets Gymnastics, Gisborne Dance Academy, Ritual Sauna, BodyFit with Holly May, The Lifestyle Managers, Oakfield Designs, Maple Gallery Photography, Ranges Personal Training, Gisborne Vintage Machinery Society, Midlife Rebel Coaching, Stress Free Super Mum, Kids Creative Writing Lessons with Kat, Yogaflow with Jo, Wild Little Swallows Photography, Laser Blanks Australia, The Aroma Room, Gisborne Health Essentials, Matching the Beauty Within, Aurora Joy Photography and The Spiritual Closet.
What do I get when I use my keyring? The discounts and deals vary depending on the business. Scroll to the bottom of the blog to read the current specials from the businesses mentioned above.
Who can be involved? Any local business which offers services in or around the Macedon Ranges can join our Shop Local Initiative. We would love more businesses from Kyneton, Woodend, Romsey, Lancefield, Trentham and Riddells Creek in particular. There is a small cost for our basic package, just $55 to be involved until the end of the year, and you can receive more airtime on our social media posts and stories for a larger investment. (Or there is the option to advertise if giving a deal or discount doesn’t work for your business).
Where can I buy a keyring? You can buy a Macedon Ranges Mumma keyring here, online, or in person at Maddisons in Gisborne and Laser Blanks in Romsey. We are also looking for other businesses in other parts of the shire with store fronts who would like to sell the keyrings for us. Keyrings are just $20 and includes postage if you order online.
Support local: The Shop Local Initiative can save you hundreds when you shop at our participating businesses and helps get the word out about them as well. There will be a sticker on the door or window of our Initiative businesses, reminding you to use your keyring when you are there.
