Top 10 Spring School Holiday Ideas in the Macedon Ranges

Can you believe holidays are here already? We are spoilt in the Macedon Ranges as there is a wide variety of school holiday activities to choose from for children of all ages and interests. Whether sports, art, theatre, craft, robotics or water fun, there is all that and much more!

  1. Goldfields Library activities : The Goldfields Libraries run free programs throughout the school holidays. The Romsey, Gisborne, Kyneton and Woodend libraries have a variety of activities to choose from including: fun with bubbles, biodiversity show and tell, rock painting, marble runs, Lego building and live theatre shows. Be sure to book to secure your place.
  2. Gisborne Village Shopping Centre: The Village Shopping Centre is running free craft activities between 10 am and 1 pm from Tuesdays to Fridays. The activities include: flower garland making, ladybird crafting, balloon twisting, face painting and slime making.
  3. Woodend Neighbourhood House is running workshops on Lego robotics, cartoon drawing and boomerang bag making. Lancefield and Romsey Neighbourhood House have a combined holiday program covering everything from sports, cooking and craft to sewing, hip hop and Lego building. The majority of the activities are five dollars. Kyneton Community House is also holding a Lego robotics workshop but there are limited spaces left.
  4. Little Think Big: Do your kids love crafting but you can’t stand the mess? Book into a session at Little Think Big these school holidays, let your children create to their hearts content and leave the mess behind. There is sensory play, painting, box creation and plenty of glue and glitter. The sessions run from Tuesdays to Fridays.
  5. Sand Art Gallery: Nestled on a hill in Riddells Creek next to Dromkeen is this amazing exhibition of sand sculptures. These three dimensional artworks have been carefully crafted and together tell a magical story that will delight young and old alike.
  6. Rainbow Serpent Crafting workshop: Held at the Kyneton Museum, children learn the creation story of the Rainbow Serpent and then make their own out of cardboard and wool. The five dollar cost covers entry into the museum, including the Baggunga Exhibition of contemporary Aboriginal arts and crafts.
  7. CJ Wicked Cakes cupcake decorating class: If your child enjoys decorating cakes, this is the perfect workshop for them. It will be held on Monday 30 September between 10 am and 12.30 pm. Email or message CJ Wicked Cakes to receive more information and to book your child’s place.
  8. Line Dance: This line dance is not the country kind but involves creating artworks using charcoal and other materials through dance. The class is held in Kyneton as part of the Kyneton Town Hall Kids program and is run by local artists.
  9. Gisborne Aquatic Centre and Kyneton Toyota Sports and Aquatic Centre hold both intensive swim lessons as well as inflatable fun over the school holidays. There’s plenty of sessions to choose from, so it’s easy to slide it into your schedule. (See what I did there?).
  10. Gardens of Tieve Tara: Spring is the ideal time to visit these beautiful gardens on Mount Macedon which are open daily. The kids will love exploring the lush lawns, cubby houses and playing on the equipment amongst the greenery. Pack a picnic and make the most of your stay.
